Description:

Conditional pardon. The original parchment copy of the Conditional Pardon granted to Joseph Forster by Governor Sir George Gipps. A photostatic copy of the 1853 Marriage Certificate of Archdeacon Coles Child and Mary Anne Susan Morse is also included in this material. Joseph Forster was the ancestor of T.R. Forster who granted Booloominbah to the University of New England in 1938. According to a handwritten note on the envelope containing the parchment, this conditional pardon was given to the Reverend Charles Markham Mills in the 1890s. Reverend Mills was the Rector of Denham in the Hunter Valley from 1876 to 1903. The marriage certificate included in this material is that of his wife's parents.
