Description:

The majority of this material is financial and personal correspondences between Thomas Tourle of Balala Station, Armidale and his brother John Tourle of London during 1852 and 1853. Also included among this correspondence is a letter from a representative for J. Solomon, dated 1853, about a shipment of rock salt to Balala station. Thomas Tourle married into the Morse family and co-owned Balala station with one of his wife's brothers. Fragments of the Morse family seal are also a part of this collection along with the probate of the last will and testament of another one of Thomas Tourle's brothers-in-law, John Morse. The probate of the will, dated 24 August 1864, shows that one of the witnesses of this last will and testament was the solicitor John Tourle.
