Reference:A0147
Date Range:1869 - 1944
Description:

This accession consists largely of the records of 'Wallabadah' Station, including letterbooks (1871 - 1929), ledgers (1869 - 1921), journals (1869 - 1907), shearers' tally and wool books (1871 - 1943), sheep stud books (1874 - 1910), a small quantity of minor records, and the diaries of J.M.L. MacDonnell (1871 - 1931, with gaps), J.M.L. MacDonald Jr (1930-31, 1933-34) and H.L. MacDonald (1897 - 1944, with gaps). The single item of greatest interest, however, is the so-called Wallabadah Manuscript, the memoirs of William Telfer Jr, who was a station hand on 'Wallabadah' at the time of writing, c.1903. This records the author's memories of life in Tamworth and district from the 1840s onward, and is a document of the greatest interest for the social history and Aboriginal folklore of that area.
