[Repository details]
Reference:A0207
Date Range:1877 - 1941
Description:

This accession consists of one large volume used mainly as a stud book. Chiefly devoted to recording the pedigree of horses bred on 'Weinteriga' station, the book also lists station horses bred elsewhere. The horses are listed by number, name, color, sex, sire, dam, date of branding, style and location of brand, name of breaker and date broken. There is also information about stud rams and ewes, and weights of fleeces from the same. A few pages list rainfall statistics for 'Weinteriga' (1877-1922), for 'Culpaulin' (1889-1913) and for 'Glenlyon' (1885-1912). There is a short list of dairy cows (folio 216) and a longer list of working bullocks (fol. 207). Both lists are dated April 1911. 'Weinteriga' is situated in the western division of New South Wales about 40 miles to the south-west of Wilcannia. In 1895, 'Weinteriga' (then held by G. & J. Riddock) carried 132,778 sheep. By 1939 this number was reduced to 15,000.
