Dumaresq, Captain William John (1793 - 1868)

Born: 1793  Bushel Hall, Shropshire, England.  Died: 1868.

Captain in the Royal Staff Corps and an engineer, accompanied his brother Henry to Sydney in 1825. Appointed surveyor, engineer and inspector of roads under the colonial administration. A member of the Scone District Council and the NSW Legislative Council.


Career Highlights
William Dumaresq, a Captain in the Royal Staff Corps, and engineer, accompanied his brother Henry to Sydney in 1825. He was appointed surveyor, engineer and inspector of roads under the colonial administration, but would soon retire to the Scone district where he became a well-known local personage with strong ties to the disctrict. He was a member of the Scone District Council and served on the Legislative Council as the representative of the districts Hunter, Brisbane and Bligh. Dumaresq died in Queensland in 1868.
