Archival Resources
Born: 13 October 1817  Greenwich, England.  Died: 19 January 1905  Armidale, New South Wales.

Hargrave was the son of an ironmonger and arrived in Australia on the Argyle in 1839. In 1840 he joined others in a partnership owning several station properties. He took up a large tract of land on the Macintyre and established four stations on the Macintyre and Severn Rivers.

After relinquishing his share in the stations in about 1843, he bought Hillgrove Station near Armidale and lived in the district for the rest of his life.
