Archival Resources
Born: 23 February 1833  Parish of Egham, Surrey.  Died: 1928  Tamworth, New South Wales.

Jacobs left school at 13 to work on farms. In 1848 he came with his family to Australia on the Duke of Roxburgh and they all went to Maitland to work on a property. They began farming on the Paterson River and worked as carriers to the gold diggings, eventually abandoning farming to carry fulltime.

Jacobs married in December 1858 and settled down to farm wheat at Nundle, threshing his wheat by bullock team. He was elected First Warden of the Oddfellows Lodge at Nundle in about 1865, eventually progressing to Vice Grand, and continued his association on the Manning where he lived for a short while. When leaving the Manning, he was presented with a Grand Master's Apron.
