Description:

'Deepwater' station, situated about twelve miles north of Glen Innes, was taken up in 1839 by Archibald Windeyer and managed on his behalf by William Collins. Windeyer later took John Donald Macansh (his son-in-law) into partnership. This interesting and important record group includes station diaries (1845-1892), correspondence (1852, 1875 & 1889-1904) and accounts (1845-1945) all relating to'Deepwater'. In addition there are a diary (1892) and a station ledger (1897-1904) from Myall Downs. An interesting account of a journey with cattle to Brunette Downs appears in the diary of T.W. Macansh (1882). There are also some genealogical notes (n.d.) Re the Windeyer family of 'Kinross'. Archibald Windeyer arrived in New South Wales from England in 1838. He bought 'Kinross' (near Raymond Terrace in the Hunter Valley) at about the same time (1839) as he acquired 'Deepwater'. 'Kinross' became the family home from which he administered his large and prosperous pastoral interests.
