Description:

Minutes, reports, press-statements, circulars and correspondence of the Growers' Defence Committee, which was set up on 14 November 1958 as a combined action group to represent various existing associations of fruit and vegetable growers in New South Wales. The main object of the Committee was 'to oppose, by all means within its power, the application for an increase in the maximum commission permissible to Licensed Farm Produce Agents submitted by the Chamber of Fruit and Vegetable Industries ...' [Minutes, 14-11-58]. Also included in this accession are two volumes of transcripts of evidence given before the Industrial Commission of NSW, 1958-1959 [ts. 1330 pp.]. After being inactive for almost six years, the Growers' Defence Committee was dissolved by agreement at a final meeting held in the boardroom of the Potato Growers' Association, Flemington, Sydney on 22 June 1971.
