Description:

Notebook. This notebook was thought to have been kept by Robert Mulligan during his time as a shepherd on various properties, including Rockvale and Balaclava stations, to the north of Armidale. Robert Mulligan was born in Ireland in 1823 and arrived in Sydney on board the Argyllshire in November 1840, with his parents and six brothers. Mulligan was a trained carpenter who claimed to have built the first house in Armidale. He may also have been a drover and dealer in animals. He later selected a property called Hillsborough from Boorolong station. Part of the notebook refers to Mulligan's business as a selector.
