[Repository details]
Reference:A0143
Date Range:1886 - 1891
Description:

Account books. Journal of accounts (15 May 1886 - 27: July 1891) records daily retail sales of meat to customers who had an account with Quirk. Journal entries are periodically posted to the ledger (1 Apr 1886 - 27 July 1391) where they are entered in individual accounts. The ledger is indexed. Folio references allow easy comparisons between these basic books of account. John Quirk (said to be the first butcher on the Tweed) was born on the Isle of Man. After coming to New South Wales, he tried tobacco growing on the Hunter, and took part in a gold rush in north Queensland before opening his butchery at Tumbulgum. Tumbulgum (the stress is on the second syllable) is a small town about 20 kilometres to the north-east of Murwillumbah on the far north coast of New South Wales. 2 vols (shelved flat).
