Photograph of Pearson Simpson (n.d.), Possibly taken in the 1860s. A letter accompanying the photograph gives some interesting biographical and historical detail regarding Simpson's life and times. According to the depositor (his grandson), Pearson Simpson was the first white man to come to the Ballina district and the first to cut cedar on the Richmond river (8 February 1841). Simpson had arrived in the colony in 1827.
