[Repository details]
Reference:A0217
Date Range:1898 - 1900
Description:

Two diaries written by Mary Anne Smith (née Avery) of 'Rosewood', Grafton. The diaries give a lively picture of middle-class life in Grafton at the end of the nineteenth century. From the text, 'Rosewood' appears to be a mixed farming property within easy walking distance of Grafton. Mrs Smith and her family were on friendly terms with many of the town's solicitors, doctors, bankers, auctioneers, hotel keepers and well-to-do farmers and business managers, and frequently exchanged visits with them.
