Description:

Papers. Correspondence, newspaper cuttings, one map (tracing) and a photograph relating to the establishment at Point Lookout of the New England National Park. The park (officially referred to as Reserve No. 62843) was in 1931 notified as an area set aside for public recreation (under the Public Trusts Act, 1897), and was gazetted in March 1934. The park was officially opened, by Lord Gowrie, on 17 April 1937. The original area (of about 42,190 acres) was increased in 1940 by the addition of a further 14,000 acres.
