Armidale and New England Jockey Club (1842 - )

Location: Armidale, New South Wales, Australia

From the first recorded race meet held in Armidale on 4 April 1842, the sport has had a strong following. The Armidale and New England Jockey Club was formed in 1856 and by the later half of the 19th century two day race meetings were held three to four times a year, with a full week in February. Each racing season culminates with the running of the Armidale Cup.
