South Wollongong (Fort Drummond-Coniston) Progress Association (1917 - 1921)

Archival Resources

A meeting of the residents of Mount Drummond was convened on 14 January 1917 to discuss possible names for the post office which was to be established near the junction of the Illawarra and Port Kembla railway lines. The South Wollongong Progress Association was established at this meeting to promote the civic development of the district. Subsequently, the Association was active in encouraging the establishment of a school, the provision of water and electricity supplies and in effecting improvements to roads and drainage in the district.
