Grand United Order of Oddfellows (1904 - 1937)

The Miners' Friend Lodge, Balgownie was instituted on 22 April 1920. Previously the Lodge had convened as a sub-branch of the Star of the South Lodge, Sydney. The Grand United Order of Oddfellows was established in NSW in 1848 and was registered under the Friendly Societies Act of 1899. The Order is a voluntary association which seeks to provide assistance to its members in times of sickness, death or unemployment.
