Legacy seeks to provide care for the dependents of servicemen who died while on war service or subsequently. Initially emphasizing the need to provide care for the children of ex-servicemen, increased emphasis has been given to the care of their widows. Membership of Legacy is open to servicemen and ex-servicemen who have served in a war zone. A City of Wollongong and District Legacy Contact Group covering the area from Austinmer to Dapto was established on 9 July 1945. Within two years the activities of the Group had substantially increased and the Wollongong Legacy was established on 8 November 1947. The Club is responsible for the coastal area from Helensburgh to the Victorian border. Contact groups were established at Nowra and Bega. |
