Stream Hill Farm ( - 1994)

Stream Hill Farm, West Dapto - 100 acres granted to Joseph Harris 6 December 1832 on condition that he lived on the land and cultivated it and named it Stream Hill Farm. Joseph Harris was a private in the 39th Foot Regiment and served as batman to Charles Sturt during the Peninsula Wars. He came to Australia with Sturt in 1827. Harris accompanied Sturt during exploration of the Macquarie River and location of the Darling River. Mt Harris near Wellington was named after Joseph Harris. Part of expedition which traced the Murrumbidgee River to the Murray. On 8 December 1839, Harris sold Stream Hill Farm to William Sheafe who was also part of the Sturt expedition. He lived on a neighbouring property, Struggle Farm of 100 acres. In 1877, Joseph's son William purchased Stream Hill Farm from the heirs of William Sheafe. A stone in the floor of the old milking bails at the back of the homestead is inscribed 1888. West Dapto school was built of sandstone quarried from the farm.
