Percy Haslam tirelessly researched Aboriginal culture and language, leaving behind him an invaluble collection of rare Aboriginal artifacts and recorded research. In recognition of his work, Haslam received an honorary Master of Arts in in 1984. |
Career Highlights | |
Percy Haslam worked at the Newcastle Herald as its industrial and political roundsman for 44 years until his retirement in 1977. He received an honorary degree of Master of Arts, honoris causa, in 1984 in recognition of his wonderful work in indigenous culture and language. Since his death, Haslam's work has inspired at least five independant researchers to further investigate and record Aboriginal languages. As well as written records, the colletion contains a number of Aboriginal artifacts including many weapons. | |
