Armidale Gas Company (1885 - ) |
Location: Armidale, New South Wales, Australia | |
With the prospect of Hunter Valley coal gas being available, the Armidale Gas Company was established and the official opening of the gasworks held on October 23, 1885. The gas, used to light public buildings, churches and homes, was a great improvement over the previously used kerosene. The Armidale Council eventually purchased the gas works and in 1890 assumed control of the operations. |
