When Mona was almost two years old her mother died and she was sent to live with her grandmother, Elizabeth Eggert, in Wauchope. Here Mona spent her school years. She married Laurie Jeffery on 12 March 1923 at Wauchope. Laurie was from Euroka on the Macleay River. They lived in Wauchope for four years, where Mona was an A grade tennis player. After moving to Sydney for a short period, they returned to Wauchope where Laurie died in 1960. Mona won many trophies at golf and played bowls.
