George Everett and his brother John arrived in Sydney in 1838, and later squatted at Ollera fourteen miles from Guyra. The brothers would go on to found a sheep and cattle breeding dynasty at Ollera Station. |

John arrived in Sydney, Australia, with his brother, George, in October 1838 on the Hope and squatted at Ollera, near Guyra, New England. Their brother, Edwin, joined them in 1842 and the property was registered in their joint names. John returned to England in 1858, two years after his brother, George, and married Helen Wauhope at Edinburgh. He became the firm's London agent. Ollera was a sheep station principally and also carried Hereford cattle. Ollera was run on paternalistic lines: the firm brought out migrant families and employed them as shepherds, paid good wages and established banking and store facilities, schools and a church. Sporting and social activities were encouraged and families intermarried. John's second son, Arthur, managed Ollera for many years after 1890.
