Edwards, Eric Thomas Allen 'Doc' (1905 - 1992)

Born: 14 September 1905  Armidale, New South Wales.  Died: 6 February 1992  Armidale, New South Wales.
'Doc' Edwards was educated at Armidale and attended Armidale High School. He obtained his Master of Science degree from the University of Sydney in Agriculture and his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin, USA.

From 1923 until 1945 he did research and advisory work for the NSW Department of Agriculture. He was one of the founders of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and its Federal President in 1956.

He worked with private organisations in the area of agriculture in Australia before becoming Director of Public Relations and Publicist at the University of New England in 1955. He was actively involved in establishing the Faculty of Rural Science and the Faculty of Agricultural Economics at that university. A prolific writer, he issued over 360 press releases about the university from 1955 to the end of 1958.

In the mid-1980s he lost both feet from circulatory problems and was confined to a wheelchair, although he remained independent for much of his remaining life.
