The Kiama and Shoalhaven District Teachers' Association was formed prior to 1908 as a regional body of the NSW Public School Teachers' Association. On 18 September 1920, the name was changed to the Shoalhaven District Teachers' Association. Some time prior to 1953 the Association appears to have become the Nowra-Berry Teachers' Association. Another name change occurred on 17 February 1956 and the Shoalhaven Teachers' Association came into being. On 18 June 1959 a branch of the Secondary Teachers' Association was formed at Nowra High School. As an attempt to rectify declining school facilities in the district, the Shoalhaven Educational Needs Committee was formed on 10 March 1966. |
