Determined not to revert to a peace-time economy based on 1939 conditions, the NSW Government established a Reconstruction and Development Division within the Premier’s Department in 1944. To advise the Division, regional advisory committees were set up throughout the state during 1945. The Illawarra Regional Development Committee met for the first time on 29 July 1945 and began investigating ways of promoting the optimum development of the industrial, population, economic and environmental resources of the region. In 1973, the Committee became the Illawarra Regional Advisory Council. |
