Pelham Fiennes Pelham Clinton, Henry (1811 - 1864)

Born: 1811  Berkley Square, London, England.  Died: 1864.

Styled Earl of Lincoln as a young man, Henry Pelham Clinton became the 5th Duke of Newcastle after his father's death in 1851. Appointed Secretary of State for War and the Colonies in 1852, he held this appointment until 1854 after which he remained Secretary of State for war only. He returned to the Colonial portfolio in 1859, during which he made various gubernatorial appointments in the Australian colonies. He died in 1864.
