Edward David Stewart Ogilvie was an English immigrant who arrived with his family in 1825. He managed the large and successful Yulgilbar Station on the Clarence River between Tenterfield and Grafton in New South Wales.

Career Highlights
The second son of Captain William Ogilvie, Edward arrived in New South Wales on the convict ship Grenada with his family in 1825 and they settled on the Hunter, establishing a sheep station called Merton.

In 1840 Edward set out with his brother to look for grazing country. They reached South Grafton in April of that year and found good land up river at Yugilbar. During the trip they captured an Aboriginal boy named Pundrow and took him home to the Hunter where they learned from him the language of Yugilbar Aborigines.

In 1841 they travelled to Yugilbar via Tenterfield with sheep, men and equipment and established a station. After his brother's death in 1846 Edward managed the pastoral holdings and by 1854 he had become wealthy. He travelled Europe until 1859 when he returned to Yugilbar to build a huge castle which was completed in 1866. In 1858 he married Theodosia de Burgh.

In 1863-89 Ogilvie was a member of the Legislative Council and over the years developed a reputation for being quarrelsome with employees, friends and government officials. He was an early member of the Australian Club and a founding member of the Linnean Society of NSW in 1875. His wife died in 1886 and he married Alicia Tottenham in 1890, living in Florence until 1893 when they moved to Yugilbar.
